Rewrite my resume

A rewrite only counts if it survives a second reading. Otherwise you have a nicer document and the same silence.

So do not rewrite the whole thing. Find the line a screener stops on, fix that line, and have it read again.

Example — product marketing, 3 yearsCUT
  1. 1Growth marketer who owns paid acquisition end to end.
  2. 2Senior Marketing Associate, Northgate Software — 2023 to now.
  3. 3Partnered with sales and design to launch campaigns across channels.

Cut at line 3
Line 3 describes involvement, not ownership. Nothing above it names a budget, so the headline claim is unproven.

Rewrite
Owned a $40k monthly paid budget across Google and LinkedIn; cut cost per lead 32% over 2 quarters.

Why most rewrites change nothing

A screener spends seconds on the top third and looks for a reason to move on. Nothing below that reason gets read.

Rewriting your 2019 internship bullet is work with no reader. The decision already happened four lines up.

Tools that hand back a polished file skip the only hard part: someone competent saying no, and saying where.

The order a screener actually reads in

  1. 1Your headline, and whether it claims a scope the posting asked for.
  2. 2Your most recent title, and whether the level matches the posting.
  3. 3The first 2 bullets under it, and whether they carry evidence — a number, a budget, a system, a team size.
  4. 4Then, only if nothing has failed yet, everything else.

What to rewrite first

Take the line that lost you the screen and ask what claim it makes. Then ask what on the page proves that claim.

If nothing proves it, move the evidence up or drop the claim. Both beat a stronger adjective.

Then run the same posting again. If the verdict is still CUT, the reason will have moved, and that is progress.
